INTRODUCTION
My call-sign is Krieger. I am a former Green Beret with over 20 years of military service. As a member of Special Forces, I served as an instructor in Phase II, Small Unit Tactics (land navigation, marksmanship, Light Infantry Tactics; recon patrols, combat patrols, close quarters battle, airborne operations, and an introduction to Special Forces operations) and Phase III, the Special Forces Medical Sergeant’s Course.

For the past ten years I have been employed as a contractor in the various capacities and locations.

I am writing this post because I often see weekend warriors, “instructors”, students and range attendees with a host of equipment on their rifles.

I think there might be a more realistic approach based on the reality of anticipated use of your main battle rifle.

I’ll be discussing that approach in this and subsequent posts.

MINDSET: FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION
My two rifles are set up for one purpose: Combat and Survival in a TEOTWAWKI situation. I have two main battle rifles. One is a Daniel Defense DDM4 V11 and the other rifle is a Smith and Wesson M&P15 TS. These two weapons are set up identically.

ACCESSORIES
I have minimal accessories on or attached to my rifles. The reason for this is simple, but I will be discussing the reasoning point by point in future posts. For now I will share that I’m not trying to impress anyone by having the latest gadgetry, or the latest flash, or including the latest CQB technique, which may or may not have validity. Neither of my two main battle rifles have bipods, or finger groove accessories, or 45 degree canted sights, or a magnified optic. My rifles are setup the way that they are because of many reasons – one of which is that it works. Simplicity in a complex world is King. For now I will note that the accessories that are on the rifles are: Aimpoint T1, Back-Up (locking) iron sights and a Surefire X300U-A light.

SELECTED ACCESSORIES AND WHY
I’ll also discuss why I use an Aimpoint instead of an Eotech, why my weapon light is the X300U-A, and why it is positioned UNDER the rifle, and not on the side at 90degrees or even at the 45 degree position and why I do not have a finger activation touch pad. I’ll also discuss what type of magazines I carry and why.
