Many gun belts have open top carriers or a nylon covered type of elastic band or cord that secures the magazine in its carrier.
Open top magazine carriers do very little to prevent your magazines from being stripped away during operations.
The elastic, nylon elastic band type of magazine carrier is an attempt to blend two worlds. Unfortunately, in my experience the Nylon elastic bands tend to be catch on the grooved sides of the polymer style magazines.
When utilizing a Velcro nylon flap/closed top magazine carrier (such as is pictured) you don’t lose equipment. THAT is the ultimate sense of security during movement.
