Use Your Burner Number As Your Rewards Card Number
If you’ve ever wanted to conceal your identity or protect your personally identifying information from prying eyes, then this series is made specifically for you.
“Reward cards and points” are great method to attain cash, or tangible goods recompense. In fact, about a year ago, I cashed in my reward points with my bank, which then sent me a check for about $5,000! Am I a fan of rewards points? YES! But I also realize that they come with a price. That price is the selling, and subsequent disclosure of your personally identifying information, and your purchasing habits. Not so big a thing, unless this same information is being used to manipulate to make purchases that you otherwise might not have. How does this happen? Long story short… (a) they track the purchases that you make, that are linked to your cellular phone number (rewards card number) and then sell that information to other enterprises, (b) they sell your phone number to other entities who then call your phone number in an effort to sell their goods. How can you prevent this? It’s simple: AVOID USING YOUR REAL PHONE NUMBER FOR REWARDS POINTS. How?
- There is nothing that states that you have to use your REAL phone number when registering for rewards points. The requirement is that you provide a (ANY) phone number that can be used to identify you. There is nothing that states that you cannot make up a number.
- You can create a “Burner” number, and then use THAT number to register with an entity to receive rewards points. There could be a small problem with this method, however. If you use a temporary Burner number, then when that subscription runs out, someone else may use that same number in order to register for the same rewards card. Not very likely, but still possible.
- You can purchase an unlimited subscription and use that number (which you keep for an extended time period) to register for all of your rewards cards.
The next time you’re about to sign up to receive some sweet rewards points (or double the rewards points – as I like!), think about this article, and then start using “Burner” to conceal your identity.

In this article we’ve briefly discussed how to use Burner to prevent registering for rewards card from turning into revealing information about yourself.
